Sneak Peak at Machete Kills Trailer

A 30-second clip of the "Machete Kills" trailer has been released a couple of days ago and it definitely kills.  The sequel to the Robert Rodriguez directed grindhouse classic "Machete" is set to hit theaters September 13 and brings back star Danny Trejo, Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez.  The first film had a plethora of big names and sultry vixens and the sequel is no different - some of the notables joining Danny Trejo is Amber Heard, Sofia Vergara, Zoe Saldana, Edward James Olmos, Lady Gaga, Alexa Vega and Vanessa Hudgens.  This film also stars Mel Gibson and Charlie Sheen as President of the United States and he is billed for the first time under his birth name "Carlos Estevez."  Click on the link below so see a snippet of the trailer:

Bago - Sunday's Best Mixtape [Free Download]

SoCal songstress Bago's ethereal R&B falls somewhere between a syrupy Erykah Badu and a cavernous Amy Winehouse; and it helps when she's backed up by the sludgey, psychedelic beats of fellow west coast native rapper Alexander Spit.  It was on Spit's album "A Breathtaking Trip to That Otherside" where I first heard Bago's echoey vocals but I didn't find out about her mixtape "Sunday's Best" until recently.  These 10 tracks of new (NOT nu) LA downtempo soul are up for free download on her Soundcloud page.  Download those songs and be sure to check out Alexander Spit's music as well (don't worry we'll feature him in the future as well.)

Om to play “At Giza” a Temple of Dendur Ruins at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York

Om is a duo that was formed by Al Cisneros and Chris Hakius, who were the rhythm section for legendary stoner doom band "Sleep" (although Emil Amos of Grails has replaced Hakius on drums in Om in 2009.)  Their second full-length album Conference of Birds consisted of two songs, the first of which was titled "At Giza."  The band have announced that they will play their track At Giza on July 19th in front of the remains of the Temple of Dendur at the Metropolitain Museum of Art in New YorkThis is perhaps one of the most fitting backdrops for a concert ever, I wonder if they can get Nile and reunite Gaza to open for them?

The Body to record collaborative albums with Thou and Krieg

After witnessing The Body DESTROY the Empty Bottle last night in Chicago (along with the transcendant headling performance from Ghost's Masaki Batoh) I found out from their Facebook page that the noise/sludge duo has finally created their own Bandcamp page.  On the page you will find the band's rare 5 song CDR they released last year as well as two albums from guitarist Chip King's solo project "Siege Engine."  You will also find the track off their split 7" with Whitehorse which you can download for FREE or whatever monetary donation you wish.  The Body has been making quite a buzz since their 2010 breakout album All the Waters of the Earth Turn to Blood.  The album blended noisey, claustrophobic, heavy-as-fuck sludge, menacing vocal and percussion samples, a 7 minute choir intro and a desperate-as-fuck/buried alive vocal delivery from the lead singer and became an instant favorite among heavy music lovers. The Portland by way of Providence band has been quite busy ever since, releasing a compilation, a split, an album with Braveyoung, a CDR and a brand new EP.  They've also just began their 2013 tour and announced a couple of very exciting upcoming projects.

Last December Neil “Lord Imperial” Jameson, mastermind of the black metal project Krieg, posted on his band’s Facebook that he would be doing a collaborative album with The Body.  Recording is said to begin in the spring at Providence, Rhode Island’s Machines With Magnets, where 'All the Waters...' was recorded.

The most exciting news in doom/sludge recent memory however has got to be the announcement of the upcoming Thou/The Body collaboration.  According to Thou they are finishing up mixes for the collaboration EP with The Body and a short EP of songs that did not make the final cut for their upcoming full-length "Heathen."  You can check out The Body's remaining tour dates and the official video for their song 'Worship' off their latest EP "Master, We Perish" out now on At a Loss Recordings after the jump.

Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. officially picked up by ABC [*Updated with Promo Video]

It's official, ABC has announced that it has ordered a full season of "Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.The Hollywood Reporter says that ABC will begin it's marketing push with the show this Sunday where a special sneak peak at the series will air before the season finale of "Once Upon a Time."

When we first heard that the series was being produced we found out that Clark Gregg would be reprising his role as Agent Phil Coulson from Marvel’s feature films, although we're not sure yet how they will be explaining his return (my bet is that either the Coulson that died in the Avengers movie was a S.H.I.E.L.D. "Life Model Decoy" duplicate or the one in the TV series will be a LMD.)

The show will follow Agent Coulson as he assembles a small group of Agents from the worldwide law-enforcement organization known as S.H.I.E.L.D.  His select team will consist of Agent Grant Ward (Brett Dalton), Agent Melinda May (Ming-Na Wen) pilot and martial artist, Agent Leo Fitz (Iain De Caestecker) engineer, Agent Jemma Simmons (Elizabeth Henstridge) bio-chemist and new recruit/computer hacker Skye (Chloe Bennet).   Joss Whedon (Marvel’s The Avengers, ”Buffy the Vampire Slayer”), Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen are the Executive Producers.  This will be Marvel’s first TV series.  Stay tuned to Idol Threat for any future developments.

*UPDATE: Check out the first promo for Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Qwel & Maker "Beautiful Raw" new album & Tour

Chicago duo Qwel & Maker released their newest album "Beautiful Raw" yesterday on Galapagos4 Records.  The two have been staples in the underground Hip Hop community for years and they remain one of the strongest MC/Producer combos since releasing their first full collaboration album "The Harvest" in 2004.  You can download their single "Long Walkers" and an album sampler mix for free at the links below. I suggest saying 'fuck it' to the free downloads and just buying the dam thing, the whole album is a banger. Plus all digital and CD purchases gets a free download of the instrumentals! You can also check out their remaining tour dates and the Long Walkers video after the jump. Idol Threat recommended.
