How KEO Helped to Create MF DOOM [Frank151 Chapter 48 Video] + Keys to the Kuffs Pre-Order

This video gives some AMAZING insight on the origins of MF DOOM and some history behind KMD and the rebirth of Mr. Metal Fingers.  Blake "Keo" Lethem was a graffiti artist who met DOOM in his early years and helped him with art and the design/creation of his ubiquitous mask.  This video is part of a promotion for Frank151's latest book which just happens to be all about MF.  According to, "The Villain oversaw the 150+ page issue as guest curator, and one of the highlights is the series of astounding art interpreting Doom’s lyrics done by various top-notch illustrators." You can order the book from Frank151 direct or get it free from Stonesthrow with a purchase of his upcoming album Keys to the Kuffs. As a special treat you can check the jump to hear the first single off of the album DOOM made while "in exile" in London.

RIP Sherman Hemsley, Actor & Prog Rock Aficionado

February 1, 1938 – July 24, 2012
Sherman Hemsley, famous actor and star of the hit TV series The Jeffersons, passed away yesterday in his home in El Paso, Texas.  Although he is no longer with us, it's nice to know he's movin on up.

What I didn't know was that Sherman Hemsley also happened to be a huge Prog Rock head!  He once flew in Daevid Allen of the Psychedelic Rock group Gong just so he could hang out with him! He even made an album with YES founder Jon Anderson called Festival of Dreams, although it has never been released. In 1999 MAGNET Magazine interviewed Daevid Allen at a small recording studio in San Francisco.  In the interview Daevid recalls his encounter with Sherman Hemsley:

It was 1978 or 1979, and Sherman Hemsley kept ringing me up. I didn’t know him from a bar of soap because we didn’t have television in Spain (where I was living). He called me from Hollywood saying, ‘I’m one of your biggest fans and I’m going to fly you here and put flying teapots all up and down the Sunset Strip..."

"...Inside the front door of Sherman’s house was a sign saying, ‘Don’t answer the door because it might be the man.’ There were two Puerto Ricans that had a LSD laboratory in his basement, so they were really paranoid. They also had little crack/freebase depots on every floor. Then Sherman says, ‘Come on upstairs and I’ll show you the Flying Teapot room.’ Sherman was very sweet but was surrounded by these really crazy people."

RIP to a genuinely awesome dude.

ShowYouSuck addresses recent accusations in a Letter to His Fans

We've featured Show You Suck's music multiple times here on Idol Threat so you all know that we're a huge supporter of him and his music.  Apparently he has recently been wrongfully accused of getting in a physical altercation with a woman, which if you've ever met the man you'd know that is something he could never be capable of.

Unfortunately this accusation has led to Show being taken off of various upcoming shows including his opening slot for Elzhi and his spot on the North Coast Music Festival.  It's sad that bad press travels faster than good, it takes very little to slander someone's name but takes way too much to counterbalance that negativity.  Show has released a statement via clearing up the air, you can see the full statement after the jump.

"As much as I did not want to address this unfortunate issue it has come to the point that it’s effecting my fans and I’m not okay with that.

With that being said, this announcement is for all of my supporters, fans, friends and family. As all of my peers know, I do not drink, it’s just my personal choice, and everything that took place the evening of this event is still completely clear, I remember everything in account to what happened that night.

Friday morning after 2am July 6th, an altercation broke out between two belligerent people. Myself along with two others tried breaking up the fight. As I remember, and as what was told by third party witnesses, a woman was involved but was never hit or punched by anyone in my party of friends that night. However, while breaking up the fight, I was recognized as “ShowYouSuck” by the woman who, now, claims to have been hit by myself and apparently 6-11 other men. She repeatedly stated that she knew me, had booked me for a show, and in her intoxicated state, which has been acknowledged by both parties, was going to stab me to death. I’d never seen or been introduced to this woman before this incident..."

Marvel Confirms 4 New Films including Guardians Of The Galaxy

The news from Comic Con just keeps comin! Marvel has officially announced that they are planning to make four new films including a Guardians of the Galaxy movie! It was announced Saturday evening at the Marvel Studios panel as images of Drax, Groot, Star-Lord, Gamora and Rocket Raccoon were shown during the presentation, giving an idea of the main cast.

Marvel has set an official August 1, 2014 release date for it. They also announced plans for Thor: The Dark World, (November 8, 2013) Captain America: The Winter Soldier, (April 4, 2014) and Ant Man from director Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead.)  The Ant Man footage seemed to be the favorite of the panel, garnering huge cheers from the crowd.  Marvel also confirmed that actor Ben Kingsley would play Iron Man's archenemy The Mandarin in Iron Man 3 and revealed that James Rhodes aka War Machine, not Tony Stark, was in the Iron Patriot armor in the images that leaked in May. RIP John Coltrane & Guru

RIP September 23, 1926 – July 17, 1967
I was wondering why I had such a strong urge to break out all my old Coltrane LPs and listen to them the past couple of weeks.  Today marks the anniversary of John Coltrane's passing.  John Coltrane was one of the most talented musicians to ever live and has been a huge influence on me personally.  His album A Love Supreme is one of the greatest albums of all time, if not THE greatest in my humble opinion.

Today also marks the anniversary of the birth of rapper Guru from Gangstarr.  Guru would have been 51 years old had he not passed 2 years ago, and he was also coincidentally a major influence on the merging of Jazz & Hip Hop through his "Jazzmatazz" series. It's interesting that the death of one musician can coincide with the birth of another.  Celebrate our icons while they live and remember them when they pass.  RIP to two amazing artists.

New Punisher Short "Dirty Laundry" Featuring Thomas Jane & Ron Perlman

Here comes more goodies from this year's San Diego Comic ConThomas Jane (and pretty much everyone else in the entire world) has always been dissapointed in the 2004 Punisher movie, and was even more dissapointed that he was not picked to reprise his role in the Punisher: War Zone reboot.  So as a treat to the fans he has created a new film short as a sort of "love letter" to the character.  The short debuted at this weekend's Con and co-stars Ron Perlman.  The film is rated 'R' and looks great despite having CGI blood (did I mention how much I hate CGI blood?) Here's what Jane had to say about the fan film:

"I wanted to make a fan film for a character I've always loved and believed in - a love letter to Frank Castle & his fans. It was an incredible experience with everyone on the project throwing in their time just for the fun of it. It's been a blast to be a part of from start to finish -- we hope the friends of Frank enjoy watching it as much as we did making it."

Poster & Trailer for new Godzilla 2014 Movie Leaks

concept art for the movie
Godzilla fans are still reeling from the abomination released by TriStar Pictures in 1998 (don't even get me started on the Puff Diddy soundtrack) so you can understand Toho Company's hesitation to release the rights to another English language adaptation.  In fact, after 2004's Godzilla: Final Wars (released on the 50th anniversary of the Godzilla film frandchise) Toho announced that they would not put out another Godzilla movie for another 10 years.

It looks like they're taking it seriously this time because they've stuck to their guns and their 2014 deadline.  They've snagged relatively unknown British director Gareth Edwards and partnered with Legendary Pictures the film production company behind Christopher Nolan's Batman Trilogy.  The poster (above) and trailer debuted at the San Diego Comic Con this weekend (news that I heard while attending this year's G-Fest in Chicago.)  We'll post the trailer as soon as it comes out on Youtube, for now we can be satisfied with this screen capture from the trailer of Godzilla's silhouette.  Let's hope they get it right this time (*UPDATE: Looks like they set the release date for May 16th, 2014.)

Hoax Hunters #1 out today on Image Comics

Hoax Hunters (who we featured in our C2E2 spotlight) bursts from the back-up pages of Hack/Slash into their own monthly series on Image comics!  The comic follows a clandestine team as it travels the globe to keep the world’s secrets safe by spreading disinformation through the most unlikely way possible – a reality TV show!  It's X-Files meets Monsterquest & UFO Hunters with a healthy dose of conspiracy theory thrown in, a perfect amalgamation for paranoids and skeptics alike! One of the characters is an astronaut suit filled with crows. AN ASTRONAUT SUIT MADE OF CROWS!

The book is co-written by Michael Moreci & Steve Seeley (who also does the covers) with interior art from Axel Medellin.  The first issue also features a cover by Tim Seeley co-creator of Hack/Slash!  Head on over to your local comic book store to pick up the first issue today!  Those lucky enough to attend this year's San Diego Comic-Con can pick up the book in person from the creators at the Image Comics, Inc. Booth (#2729.)  Also check out some of the press below and click on the jump to preview the first 6 pages!

"Cryptids. Aliens. Monsters. All the world’s bizarre secrets--what if they were real? Their existence would be debunked by a reality TV show! HOAX HUNTERS is that show, publicly disproving all variety of lore. But their real goal is the opposite: as the world’s dark corners surface, the HOAX HUNTERS cover them up. They demonstrate that the truth isn’t out there."

"Great pacing and some killer mystery that is left to unfold. Hoax Hunters is simply put, a fun read that plays with monster mythos," and Axel Medellin "created one of the most GORE-Geous swamp monsters I have ever seen." - From the Tomb Magazine

"This is an awesomely satirical book that not only examines our obsession with hoaxes, but also society’s recent obsession with reality television." -

"You simply have no idea what will happen next, and that makes for a powerful reading experience not be missed!" - Sci-Fi Pulse
