Code of Conduct X Obey Giant: Art Chicago Installation

Renown street artist Shepard Fairey (aka OBEY) creator of the HOPE poster for Barack Obama's 2008 campaign, will be showing some of his work at Art Chicago this weekend 4/29-5/2 and creating a special installation for it. Since he was in town he managed to hook up a mural for Chicago Tattoo shop Code of Conduct last night. Idol Threat was lucky enough to be on hand to witness the process, which was kept under wraps by the Code crew until today. Peep the video from last night (which features FloydthefourtH of C4 on the beat) and click the jump to see pics of the OBEY crew putting up the mural. Head on over to State & 11th if you want to check out the piece first hand and make sure to stop by Art Chicago this weekend at the Merchandise Mart. Big ups to Code for celebrating their 1 year anniversary as well!

Utech Records Music Festival 2011/Free Label Sampler

Move over Milwaukee Summerfest, there's a new festival in town! If you're a fan of noise, drone or experimental music and you're in or near the Wisconsin area in June there is no reason for you to miss the first annual Utech Records Music Festival. Utech Records has been putting out quality releases from amazing artists such as Horseback, Gog, Nadja, Mammifer & House of Low Culture (both of which includes Aaron Turner of defunct band Isis) Chicago's Locrian and legends such as Lasse Marhaug and James Plotkin. Horseback and Locrian in particular have been causing quite a buzz the past couple of years due to their unique blends of black metal, drone & noise.

The 11 act lineup (including all the US-based groups previously mentioned) plays at the Cactus Club in Milwaukee on June 11th so if you're at least within a 2 hour drive of that place (Chicago I'm looking at you) you should definitely make the trek out there. As a bonus three NEW RELEASES will be for sale June 11 exclusively at the festival; you can pick up Ithi "The Persistence of Meaning," Gog/William Fowler Collins "Malpais," and Horseback/Locrian "New Dominions" or wait until June 18 to get them online. If you need more convincing or if you just want good free music you can download the huge Utech Records Sampler below. Slowgasm.

Show You Suck: OneManPizzaParty EP

So instead of asking for presents on his birthday Show You Suck decided to give one to all of you lucky fucks. He's giving out a free EP entitled "OneManPizzaParty" brought to you by Ruby Hornet, Code of Conduct , Artpentry and the wonderful slacker holiday 4/20. The EP was produced by his long time collaborater Mike Jaxx and includes tracks that have been recently leaked by Ruby Hornet and songs that were originally intended to be on his Coyote del Coco mixtape.

That mixtape was slated to be released yesterday but since this EP came out instead we can only assume that the project got shelved or pushed back. The new tracks are sick and if you're in Chicago this Sunday night you can hear them live when Show You Suck performs at Beauty Bar (located where Sonotheque used to be.) Download the EP below and check out the tracklist and show flyer after the jump:

FloydthefourtH "Who Dat" Freestyle

I very rarely post singles on here so you know a single’s gotta be dope if it gets some Idol Threat love. FloydthefourtH (Artpentry/Code of Conduct) is one half of the Chicago Hip Hop duo C4 which also includes turntablist C.yNot. He recently dropped a Rubyhornet exclusive freestyle over the beat to J.Cole’s song Who Dat and proceeded to demolish the track with his trademark witticisms and punchlines. He effortlessly rides the staccato horns and drums putting his own unique stamp on this already ill track, leaving the listeners to wonder what Floyd can do over his own beats if he already sounds this good on others.

Floyd IV combines the avant nature of backpacker rap with an ‘everyman’ demeanor giving undergroup Hip Hop an accessibility that hasn’t been seen since it’s heyday in the late 90s. Hopefully the hunger heard on here leads to more music in the very near future. Check below to download the track or click the link to see the original Rubyhornet post where you can stream it if you’d rather.

Embers "Shadows" FREE until April 8th

I featured the first two releases from Embers last year and I quite enjoyed their bay area blackened doom. They have a new album out called "Shadows" and are once again offering their music for free, but only until April 8th. I haven't gotten a chance to listen to it yet but I wanted to post it anyways since they have some time-sensitive stuff here, act soon before its no longer available for free download. I couldn't find any artwork for this new album yet but if it's anything like their first few releases we should be expecting a pretty badass cover to accompany this release. For now you can check out their upcoming tour dates and head over to their bandcamp to download Shadows.
