What you just saw was the official video for the 36 second scorcher of a single entitled "Spot a Pathetic" off of Wormrot's new album DIRGE. Wormrot is the newest grindcore act to sign to legendary UK label Earache Records and they are one of the best grindcore bands to come out in a long time, which is saying alot considering the slew of generic grindcore acts that comes out on a monthly basis. The trio from Singapore is graciously offering their new album for free download, which may not come as a surprise considering the way they were signed (Earache label head Digby Pearson heard their debut after illegally downloading the album.) Dirge is due to be released on physical formats on May 3rd in North America and May 23rd in Europe. Check the official statement from Wormrot for the details:

"We realised that all you grinders were so excited for more 'Abuse' with DIRGE that it's leaked, so we said 'what the fuck, here it is' - for you free in MP3 format to download right now. Get a t-shirt while you're at it you fucking cheapskates! Nabey cheebai!"

The download is a 40MB ZIP file, containing all 25 tracks in 320kbps MP3 format. All tracks are DRM free.

DIRGE is available to pre-order now on CD, as well as limited edition colored vinyl LP featuring two bonus tracks.

The colored vinyl is available in the following quantities and colors:

100 - Black & White Splatter
200 - Yellow
300 - Red & White Splatter
300 - Red
600 - Black

DIRGE here for FREE:

DIRGE will also be available as a limited edition CD with a bonus DVD featuring an exclusive behind-the-scenes look at the making of the album. A selection of new t-shirts is also available (and click the jump to see my shitty cellphone video of WORMROT performing in the basement of a Brazilian steakhouse in Indiana.)

DISFEAR bassist Henrik Frykman Passes Away

"Longtime DISFEAR bassist Henrik Frykman passed away last week after a battle with cancer. The surviving members of the band — Björn Pettersson, Marcus Andersson, Ulf Cederlund and Tomas Lindberg — have released the the following statement regarding the matter:

"It is with heavy hearts we inform you that on Friday the 25th of March Henrik Frykman passed away in his home after a long battle with cancer. Henrik will be greatly missed by family and friends."

Frykman joined ANTI-BOFORS in 1990, a year before the band underwent a name change to DISFEAR. The group morphed and evolved over the past 20 years into an internationally recognized and respected act."

Ten Suicides at Reckless Records 6/20/10 [Video]

Ten Suicides at Reckless Records (6/20/10) from Bullart. on Vimeo.

Was so bummed that I missed this last year, Eyehategod & Bloodyminded together? Insane. Luckily I just found the video. It's currently almost 4 in the morning and I can't sleep, so this is exactly what I needed right now. Plus I just saw Godspeed You! Black Emperor perform and I got a peanut butter Twix. Best night ever. The official description pretty much says it all:

"Between a two night stand at The Empty Bottle in Chicago, members of Eyehategod collaborated with members of Bloodyminded on a 20 minute noise/power electronics set. This collaboration can be traced back to when Mike Williams contributed vocals to a track on Bloodyminded's Gift Givers album entitled "Ten Suicides". As of recently, Mike Williams put out a 7" with a remixed version of this track, as well as another track, on Chrome Peeler Records. The collaboration is essentially a long, new rendition of the "Ten Suicides" track, hence the name.

This collaboration took place at the Reckless Records on Milwaukee Avenue and features Mike Williams, Mark Solotroff, Joey LaCaze, Isidro Reyes, James Moy, and Ryan McKern."

METALLIANCE TOUR Chicago Stop Moved Due To Gang Shooting

Well it’s good to know that I can count on Howl’s Facebook page to inform me that the show I bought tickets for this Sunday has been moved. No email notice from the ticket sellers or promoters as of yet, I guess that’s what us blogs is for huh? The Joliet/Chicago area stop of The Metalliance Tour has been moved due to good ol Chicago gang violence – see the info below for details and click the jump for remaining dates of the tour and news of the shooting from the Herald/Sun Times:

“THE 2011 METALLIANCE TOUR will have to move their Chicago show this Sunday due to recent gang-related activity in the vicinity of the venue. The city has imposed a seven day hold on the venue's operations license forcing the show to a new venue called BADA BREW (802 Theodore Street). The show will go on as scheduled. All tickets will be honored.

THE 2011 METALLIANCE TOUR has enjoyed early success with two sold out shows on it's inaugural run thus far. Headlined by HELMET, ST VITUS and CROWBAR and is proudly supported by metal heavyweights KYLESA, RED FANG, HOWL and ATLAS MOTH on all dates. The tour is sponsored by Revolver Magazine, Loudtrax, Brooklyn Vegan, Mosh Potatoes Cookbook and Giddy Up! Sauces. More info can be found at”

Nate Dogg Passes Away at 41

(August 19, 1969 – March 15, 2011)

Nathaniel Dwayne Hale, better known by his stage name Nate Dogg, passed away today at the age of 41. The Hip Hop singer was best known for his collaborations with Warren G, Dr. Dre & Snoop Dog. Rumors are that his death was the result of complications from the multiple strokes he's experienced throughout the recent years. Please pay attention to your heart health, it can take the young as well as the old. RIP to a West Coast legend.

Heliotropes - III EP and Ribbons 7 inch

Heliotropes is a Brooklyn based all-girl band that also works with a few collaborators from time to time. They play some heavy psych with some doom/stoner undertones. Combined with the clean deadpan vocals you get a very understated, trance-like concoction that ends up being quite addicting. There's less freak outs and solos than you'd expect and it gets a little "poppy" at times but they balance it with atmosphere and great songwriting, and the heaviness becomes a result of the cumulative effect of all the elements rather than being blatantly beaten into each song.

It's like walking a long time with while carrying some extra weight, it's far from back-breaking but you don't realize how heavy it really was until it's done. The music is definitely not a burden however and I find myself wanting to hear more than the 19 minutes of material they have on their bandcamp page. Their debut "III" is available for free download as well as their new 7" Ribbons, but you have the option to pay whatever you'd like for Ribbons which I urge you to do. The 7" is definitely heavier than III but they're both pretty enjoyable. Also if you're gonna be at SXSW this year they'll be playing at 6:30pm on Friday, March 18th at Baby Blue on 1522 East 12th Street.

COFFINS Sign To Relapse Records

Let's move on to less somber news. Aforementioned Japanese Doom/Death band Coffins has just recently signed to Relapse Records. First they release a 2XCD comp of their singles entitled Ancient Torture, then they announce an album of sludge covers, and now this new full-length on Relapse - all to be released this year (with a couple of singles and splits as well no doubt.) There's a reason these guys are one of my favorite bands. Here's the press release:

"Relapse Records is proud to announce the signing of COFFINS.

COFFINS is a three piece death / doom band from Tokyo, Japan that formed in 1996 and has previously released three full-length albums and numerous split releases. The band is currently writing for their fourth full-length and Relapse debut with plans to record later this year.

COFFINS will embark on their first-ever European tour this April alongside SOURVEIN and AGUIRRE as part of the “Doom Over Europe” tour. This tour will conclude with a performance as part of the sold-out Roadburn Festival in Tilburg, Netherlands. A listing of confirmed tour dates and cities can be found at"

Update on Status of Japanese-based Bands

Japan is home to a ton of amazing bands, many of which as you may know are huge favorites here at Idol Threat. After hearing that High on Fire survived being in Tokyo during this tragedy (mere weeks after they survived being in Australia during their earthquake) I of course immediately thought of the safety of many of the bands that call Japan home. Some have already updated through Facebook that they are safe and sound, it's amazing how much social sites like Twitter and such can now provide news such as this instantly throughout the world.

I have scoured the internet looking for news from other bands like Boredoms, Boris, Acid Mothers Temple, Melt Banana, Ruins and more but have only been able to get confirmation from the following bands. If you have any news about the above listed bands or others please share them with us:

"As for the earthquake, we are safety. We had gathered for the practice. The earthquake came when we finished just practicing. So scary moment. Anyway we are ok."

"Dear Friends,
We are all safe. But it was definitely one of the most powerful, longest earthquakes ever though. Many thanks for thinking of us during this crazy time.

Kazuyuki Kishino (KK Null/Zeni Geva):
"I got the unexpected phone call on the train heading to San Sebastian this afternoon, which was from my wife Mikiko in Japan and told me about the earthquake. She and Maru chan are safe and fine and our house is OK. What a relief!! However, they are still having many aftershocks, I wish I could be with my family at a time like this." (KK Null is currently in Paris, France)

*Update via Temporary Residence Limited Records forum:
"By all accounts all TRL-related folks are safe and sound. Envy, MONO and Caroline appear to be accounted for. Apartments are wrecked and some folks are going to have to find new homes, but lives are spared and that's more than a lot of people can say, so we're counting our blessings."

Japan Hit with 8.9 Earthquake

It's Friday. I'm trying to get excited for the weekend but it's hard to do with crises happening all around the world. Natural disasters, unrest, rising oil prices (which directly affects my upcoming SXSW trip) it's almost too hard to try and keep up with all the catastrophe lately. Just think, at the same time people wait in line for the iPad2 thousands of other people are losing their homes while hundreds more lose their lives. My heart goes out to Japan, my first home. Keep your friends and family close and feel blessed if you have your health and home. We should live our lives instead of living in fear, but never forget what is important.

Vakill - Armor of God Trailer

Chicago lyricist Vakill is coming back with a vengeance, his long awaited Armor of God album will finally see the light of day this Spring via Molemen Records. The album is set to have appearances from JUICE, Rhymefest, Crooked I, Nino Bless and production from Jake One and of course the Molemen themselves. Enjoy the trailer and be on the lookout for this record, it's sure to be a banger.

Keep up with Vakill news here:

The iPhone 8X Telephoto Lens

I think I have camera-envy... 'no photo.'

Ok this may make your phone look pretty stupid but it also turns it into beast of a camera. This little beauty adds an 8X Telephoto zoom to your camera lens enhancing your iPhone 4’s already impressive 5 megapixel camera (they also have an iPhone 3 version.) The telephoto lens stays attached by screwing onto an included iPhone case, there’s even a fucking tripod included with the package! A part of me wishes they’d make a version for my HTC Evo's 8 megapixel camera but that seems unrealistic, especially considering the fact that my thicker battery negates the use of any Evo case.

For serious photography on the go you can’t get more portable than this, become your own pocket paparazzi with this $35 attachment. (more pics after the jump, including a sample photo that showcases the zoom capabilities.) *Update: Just found out that this isn't adjustable so it loses some cool points, a fixed 8X zoom is still pretty sweet though.

Converge "Jane Doe" CD Stack

Someone from the Converge Facebook page posted this and I thought it was pretty fuckin rad so I had to share it. That is a lot of fucking cds, maybe I should do something similar since I probably have this many cds as well. This fella/girlie has a pretty sweet apartment too.
